Loblaw Companies Ltd. latched onto this idea in 2015, when it launched its Naturally Imperfect line of produce in stores across the country, selling undersized, discoloured or strange-looking onions, apples, carrots and mushrooms for up to 30 per cent less than unblemished items.
Harris Farm and Coles in Australia have special bins of misshaped, discoloured or otherwise imperfect looking fruit and vegetables all of which look perfectly normal when cooked in the stew or cut up in the fruit salad and no one complains about the savings.
